Historic Eagle Design by Jennie Norris

Obverse: The Saint-Gaudens design, which takes its name from its creator, Augustus Saint-Gaudens, features on the obverse. Widely considered the most beautiful design in American numismatic history, the image shows Liberty facing the holder with an olive branch to her side and her torch held high. Inscriptions on this face note her name, 'LIBERTY,' and the date, '2021.' For the 2021 Type-2 release the United States Mint returned to its original historical assets resulting in design that is a closer reflection to Saint-Gauden's original vision, including modifications to the Capitol Building, stars, torch, and sun rays, among other design elements.

Reverse: The reverse design was created by Jennie Norris. This design is perhaps the most detailed look at an eagle ever to appear on an American coin, as it shows a closeup look at the bird's head. Above the left-facing bird are the two statutory mottoes, 'E PLURIBUS UNUM' and 'IN GOD WE TRUST.' Inscriptions along the rim read, 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,' '5 DOLLARS,' and '1/10 OZ. FINE GOLD.
