In 1986, the United States Mint introduced the coins of the American Gold Eagle Series. The focal point of the initial launch was on the 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz BU Gold Eagles. However, the same year did see a 1 oz Proof Gold Eagle introduced as well.
In 1987, the US Mint added a 1/2 oz Proof Gold Eagle. This was followed by the 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz Proof Gold Eagles in 1988. In 2006, the mint introduced the Burnished Gold Eagle in all four weights, but later trimmed the series to just a 1 oz gold coin in 2011.
Lady Liberty features on the obverse of all 2023 1/2 oz Gold Eagle Coins. This iconic design captures Lady Liberty’s full-length figure in front-facing relief as she strides toward you with a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other.
An American bald eagle is depicted in the reverse design of 2023 American Gold Eagle Coins. This visual was created in 2020 by Jennie Norris and offers a glimpse at the majesty of the national emblem. Here, the eagle’s head is shown in left-profile relief.
These 2023 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle Coins come with perfect certifications from the NGC. A Mint State 70 coin has full, original mint luster and comes with no detracting flaws of any kind on the designs or background fields. Also included within the slab is the First Day of Issue label to ensure these were the first batch of coins struck at the US Mint the first day of production with the sharpest strikes and freshest dies. A coin with this designation was received by NGC overnight after the first day of production from the US Mint. This coin is the finest known specimen for this category of coins for the year bearing not only the highest grade and pedigree for BU coins but also bearing the authentic hand signature by Ms. Anna Cabral, the 42nd US Treasurer of the US. Anna Cabral's popularity in the precious metals market has continued to grow due to her low populations.
