The evolutionary history of the giant panda can be traced back to the family Ursidae (bears). Fossil evidence suggests that the giant panda’s ancestors diverged from other bears around 8-9 million years ago. This evolutionary lineage eventually led to the development of the distinctive panda we know today.

In the obverse design of the 2024 30 Gram Silver Panda, the Chinese Mint offers its latest design in the series. Here, with foliage filling the background field, an adult Giant Panda sits next to its young cub as leans down close to the cub’s head.

For the reverse field of 2024 Chinese Silver Panda Coins, the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests is depicted. The design focuses on the central building in the Temple of Heaven Complex, a Taoist religious site built in Beijing in the early 15^th century.
