Since 1979, Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins have been available to investors. The series debuted with only a 1 oz gold coin boasting .999 purity. In 1982, the series enhanced the gold content to .9999 fineness and added 1/4 and 1/10 oz coins. Additional weights came with the 1/2 oz coin in 1986, the 1/20 oz coin in 1993, and 1-Gram coin in 2014.

From the very beginning, Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II graced the obverse of the coins. From 1979 to 1989, effigies created by the Royal Mint were used on Gold Maples. Starting in 1990, Canadian artists were responsible for the effigies of the Queen. Now, the same is true for the first portrait of King Charles III.

His Majesty King Charles III features in left-profile relief on the obverse of 2024 1/2 oz Gold Maple Leaf Coins. This first-ever bust of the King from the Royal Canadian Mint is the third portrait of a monarch in Royal Canadian Mint history to come from Canada.

The sugar maple leaf graces the reverse of the 2024 Canadian Gold Maple Leaf. This iconic symbol of Canada has featured on the coins since 1979 and is used across all versions of the coins, from gold and silver to platinum and palladium.
