Britannia is often personified as a female warrior or goddess, embodying the spirit and identity of the British people. This personification can be traced back to Roman times when Britannia was depicted in classical art.

King Charles III is featured on the obverse of 2024 1/4 oz Silver Britannia Coins. This left-profile bust of His Majesty was created in late 2022 by Martin Jennings. It is the first-ever portrait of the King and the Britannia was the first coin redesigned with His Majesty’s effigy following the death of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2022.

Britannia is depicted in the reverse design of 2024 British Silver Britannia Coins. Her figure is shown here as designed in 1987 by Philip Nathan. The image shows her full-length figure as she stands in front-facing relief, but with her head turned toward the trident in her right hand. Her left hand clutches an olive branch and rests on a shield with the Union Jack emblem.
