He grew up in a Boer farming community, which heavily influenced his commitment to Afrikaner nationalism and the preservation of Boer culture.

On the reverse side of the 2025 South African Silver Krugerrand, you will find the iconic image of the Springbok antelope. This species, native to the southern regions of Africa, has appeared on South African coinage since the 1930s and serves as the official symbol of the Republic of South Africa.

The springbok motif gained even greater prominence with its appearance on the reverse of the Krugerrand, pairing it with Kruger’s portrait on the obverse. The design shows the springbok in mid-leap against a simple background, creating a striking image that has become synonymous with South African precious metal coinage.
