American Gold Eagle bullion coins have been rising in popularity in recent years. Demand for gold has increased as a result of the recent COVID-19 pandemic that started in 2020 and the economic fallout from the shockwaves it sent through global markets over the course of more than three years. As such, Gold Eagles have seen rising mintage figures in recent years. The 1/2 oz. version is the lowest mintage among all American Gold Eagles and only represents about 7% of the entirety of the program.

Obverse visuals on the 2024 American Gold Eagle include the 1907 depiction of Lady Liberty from Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Designed for the $20 Gold Double Eagle, this image captures the full-length figure of Lady Liberty with a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. She is seen walking toward the viewer with sun rays silhouetting her figure on the horizon, the U.S. Capitol Building at her feet, and a ring of stars around the design element.

Reverse design elements on 2024 1/2 oz Gold Eagles feature the newer depiction of the American bald eagle portrait. In this design from Jennie Norris, the head of the eagle is depicted in left-profile relief with its gaze fixed on a target in the distance. These new Type-2 designs also feature high security details for anticounterfeit purposes.
