In 1980, the South African Mint and the Rand Refinery introduced the first fractional-ounce coins to the Gold Krugerrand Series. Originally available from 1967 to 1979 in only a 1 oz gold option, the series expanded in 1980 to include 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz gold coins.

On the reverse side of the 2025 1/10 oz Gold Krugerrands, the Springbok antelope is depicted in mid-pronk as it bounds across the savanna. This design, originally created in the 1930s, became a hallmark of the Krugerrand Series when it debuted in 1967.
