In the 20th century, as the British Empire declined and transformed into the Commonwealth, Britannia’s role began to change. While still a potent patriotic symbol, she came to represent more of Britain’s historical legacy and cultural identity rather than its current global power.
All 2025 1/2 oz British Gold Britannia Coins are available here with protective plastic pouches for individual specimens. Multiples are packaged in sealed sheets of 20 coins, with all coins in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. These coins feature four enhanced security features on the obverse that include a wave texture pattern in the background, a latent security element, micro-text around the design, and tincture lines on the Union Jack.
On the obverse of 2025 British Gold Britannias is the first-generation portrait of His Majesty King Charles III. This effigy was created in late 2022 by Martin Jennings to replace portraits of Elizabeth II on British coinage. The first bullion appearance of this effigy came on the 2023 Britannia Coins. This left-profile relief shows Charles III without a crown.
The reverse side of the 2025 1/2 oz Gold Britannia Coin comes with a depiction of the female allegory known as Britannia. Her figure is shown on a patch of coastal land with one hand wielding a trident and the other clutching an olive branch as it rests on the Union Jack shield. Britannia wears a Corinthian helmet on her head.
