More significantly, it is the first monarch portrait of a leader other than Queen Elizabeth II to grace the coins in this series. His Majesty is featured in left-profile relief without a crown on his head.

A sugar maple leaf graces the reverse side of 2025 Canadian Gold Maple Leafs. This historic visual was created in 1979 for the debut of the 1 oz gold coin in the series and has since been replicated across all five additional weights in the Gold Maple Leaf Series, as well as featured on the Silver Maple Leaf, Platinum Maple Leaf, and Palladium Maple Leaf.
